Changes of Pupil, Respiration, Blood Pressure and Heart Rate by Acute Increase of Intractanial Pressure

Abstract
An expanding intracranial lesion was made by extradural balloon-method in the dog, and some apparent signs associated with increased intracranial pressure were observed.
1. Development of the anisocoria occurred when the supratentorial pressure was elevated up to 60-70mmHg.
2. Following development of the anisocoria, the courses of intracranial pressure change were lassified into three major types.
A-type; The pressure was elevated continuously and the animals expired within 1 hour.
B-type; The pressure declined down to 60-40mmHg and the sustained the pressure for 8-10 hours.
C-type; The pressure slowly returned to normal, range.
3. Following development of tentorial herniation, the first sign observed was the anisocoria and the second was some change of respiration. Elevation of blood pressure and diminution of pulse rate were observed much later, which. occurred only in association with the marked elevation of the intracranial pressure.
